NORTH VANCOUVER – North Vancouver-Seymour MLA Jane Thornthwaite congratulated the Deep Cove Rowing Club for successfully applying for an EventHostBC grant. Funding is coming from the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, which has approved a grant of $1,712. Funding will support the club’s Deep Cove Classic Regatta, a 5.5-kilometre race that will be held on September 27, 2015 in Deep Cove.
EventHostBC, launched May 8, 2015, is a one-time funding initiative intended to encourage and support community events that strengthen volunteer capacity for event hosting throughout the province. A total budget of $250,000 is being distributed equally throughout the province’s six tourism regions based on a first-come, first-served model.
Eligible non-profit organizations were invited to apply for up to $5,000 per event. Eligible events included those that were not already receiving provincial funding, would draw visitors to the community and those that were not projected to be profit-making.
The EventHostBC initiative has drawn a strong response from interested community groups in all regions of the province – a total of 430 applications were received. The first 60 applications received from qualifying not-for-profit organizations are being provided with support from the available funding allocated to that region.
